Gearbox On Aliens – “We Need To Be Careful”

Randy Pitchford, CEO and President of Gearbox Software, was recently interviewed by 360 Gamer. He answered some questions on Gearbox Software’s upcoming FPS; Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Randy was asked about how challenging it is to create an experience that delivers set piece moments, without being just a series of call backs?
“You’ve got to do both. If you love the films, you need the fan service. But, if that’s all it is, it ends up feeling a little shallow and light. Where we invent and we’ve done a lot of inventing, we also have to be careful.”
During the same interview he was also asked about how much the game takes into account the events of Alien 3, Resurrection and AVP.
“The relevant canon is Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. Alien resurrection isn’t being contradicted by Colonial Marines, but that film took place so much later than Alien 3, so it isn’t really relevant to the timeline of our game. We have taken a lot of inspiration from other Alien franchise sources, but have not considered the comic books, your, novels, or games.”
Sounds like they have done a lot of research at Gearbox while making the game. It’s great to see that Randy and his team are taking this game seriously because it is looking stunning and is certainly my most anticipated game of this year.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is scheduled for release this fall on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
