Prototype 2 Design Director – “Disappointed With The Original”
In the most recent copy of 360 Gamer, Matt Armstrong (Design Director of Prototype 2), was questioned about Prototype 2. The game is an open-world, third-person action title, a lot like the original. Instead of taking control of Alex Mercer though you take control of a new protagonist – Sergeant James Heller – as he tries to take revenge on Mercer.
Matt was asked about how easy the original was to beat without using the majority of the powers and abilities and commented on humour in the sequel.
“One of the things I’m most disappointed with in the original is that after beating the first boss, you got a message that said ’21 new upgrades available.’ Nobody in their right mind is going to read through all the descriptions and understand what validity they have. This time around, we wanted to make sure that anything that’s vital to the players experience is printed in an environment that shows it off in the best light.”
“We’ve got a brand new writing team and I think they’ve had one of the most profound effects of any group in the building. One of the things they’ve managed to integrate into the experience is a sense of humour. There are lots of moment in the game that had, for me at least, have actually had me laughing out loud.”
Radical Entertainment made the original Prototype back in 2009 and seem to have listened to the critics and fans of the game when developing the sequel and even adding laugh out loud moments apparently. We shall have to see when the game is released in April.
